A slow start on a cold morning is the classic sign of a tired battery, but a charging fault or something draining the battery overnight can look exactly the same. A new battery will not fix either of those, so we test the whole charging system first.
Most cars from the last ten years with stop-start need an AGM or EFB battery, and many need the new battery registered with the car's computer so it charges it correctly. Skip that step and the new battery can be overcharged and fail early. We do it as standard.

- How long does a car battery last?
- Typically four to six years, less if the car does lots of short journeys or sits unused. Stop-start cars work their battery harder. We test the battery at every service and warn you before it lets you down.
- Why does my stop-start battery need registering?
- On many cars, including BMW, Audi, Volkswagen and Ford models, the car's computer adjusts charging to the age of the battery. Registering tells it a new battery is fitted. Without it the new battery is charged as if it were old and can fail early.
- My car will not start at all — can you help?
- Call us on 01384 936310. If it is a flat battery we can talk you through getting the car to us, and once it is here we test the battery and charging system and fit a replacement the same day where stock allows.
