A pre-MOT check is a look over the items most likely to fail, done before the test rather than during it. If something small is wrong, like a number plate bulb or a split wiper blade, we fix it there and then so it never appears on your MOT history.
It is useful if your car has had advisories before, if a warning light has come on, or if you just want peace of mind before the real thing. We can book the pre-MOT check and the MOT back to back so you only drop the car off once.

A pre-MOT check covers
Clear expectations, no surprises. If anything extra is needed, we explain it first.
- All exterior lights, indicators and number plate lamps.
- Tyre tread depth, condition and pressures.
- Wiper blades, washer jets and screen for chips in the driver's view.
- Dashboard warning lights, including engine, ABS and airbag.
- Brake pads and discs visual check, horn, mirrors and seatbelts.
- Your previous MOT advisories reviewed.

- Is a pre-MOT check worth it?
- For older cars, or any car with advisories last year, yes. A fail goes on the public MOT history and you may need a retest. Finding a blown bulb or worn tyre beforehand means it is fixed before the test and never recorded as a failure.
- Can you do the pre-MOT check and the MOT on the same day?
- Yes. We are a DVSA MOT test centre, so we can book the pre-MOT check first and the MOT straight after. Any small items found in the check are fixed in between, with your approval first.
- What are the most common reasons cars fail?
- Lighting and signalling faults, tyres, brakes, suspension and the driver's view of the road, which covers wipers, washers and windscreen damage. A pre-MOT check covers all of these. Call 01384 936310 to book one.
