Cradley sits across the River Stour from Cradley Heath, south-east of our workshop, and is often mixed up with its bigger neighbour. Whether you are at Colley Gate, Windmill Hill or down towards Lyde Green, the drive to us on Mount Pleasant is roughly five to ten minutes, crossing the Stour and coming up through Quarry Bank.
Cradley is hilly. Drews Holloway, Windmill Hill and the roads up from the river are steep, and if you live on one of them your car spends much of its life climbing or holding on the brakes. Front pads and discs, clutches and handbrakes all work hard here, and they are the first things we look at when a Cradley car comes in.
A lot of Cradley homes are on estates with tight parking and steep drives, which is tough on tyres and on low-slung front bumpers and undertrays. If something is scraping or rattling underneath after you have caught a kerb, bring it in. Often it is a loose clip or shield that costs very little to put right.

- No — Cradley is the area south of the River Stour, around Colley Gate and Windmill Hill, while Cradley Heath is to the north. We are close to both: about 5 to 10 minutes from Cradley at 14 Mount Pleasant, DY5 2YS.
- Do steep roads wear out brakes faster?
- They can. Holding a car on a hill and braking downhill every day works the front brakes and the handbrake harder. We measure pads and discs on every service and MOT and tell you how long they have left.
- Something is scraping under my car after hitting a kerb. Can you look?
- Yes. Bring it in and we will put it on the ramp. It is often a loose undertray or heat shield, which is usually a quick and inexpensive fix.
