Wollescote sits on the hillside south of Lye, looking out towards the Clent Hills, and it is less than two miles from our workshop. The route most people take is down Wollescote Road into Lye, then up Pedmore Road past Merry Hill and across to Mount Pleasant — about eight to ten minutes in normal traffic.

It is a quiet, mostly residential area of family homes, many of them on estates built after the war, with Stevens Park and Wollescote Hall at its centre. The cars we see from Wollescote are largely family cars and second cars, plus a good number of retired drivers who want a garage that will look after one car properly for years.

Wollescote is a hilly place. Getting anywhere means a climb or a descent, and the roads down into Lye are steep enough to work your brakes hard. Add in winter mornings when the higher roads stay icy longer, and tyres and brakes become the two things we pay most attention to on cars from up here.
