Car Pulling to One Side? Tracking, Tyres or Brakes
22 April 2026 · 4 min read
Uneven tyre pressure or worn tyres
The most common reason a car pulls is a flat or soft tyre on one side. The soft tyre has less grip, and the car drifts towards that wheel. Check all four tyre pressures — they should match your manufacturer's spec (not the maximum on the tyre wall).
Worn tyres on one side also cause pulling. Uneven wear can result from poor alignment or a sticking brake caliper. We check tyre depth and condition at every service and brake inspection.
Wheel alignment (tracking) out
If pressures are even but the car still pulls, your wheel alignment is likely out. This happens after hitting a pothole, curb, or speedbump hard.
Poor alignment accelerates tyre wear and causes the car to wander. We check and adjust alignment using modern equipment. After suspension work or new tyres, alignment should always be checked.
Sticky brake or brake drag
A brake calliper or wheel cylinder that is sticking will cause the car to pull towards that wheel. The stuck brake drags slightly, pulling you sideways.
We inspect brake components and lubricate or replace calipers as needed. This is an important safety issue — a dragging brake reduces your stopping power and wastes fuel.
Book a diagnosis in Brierley Hill
Bring your car in and we will check tyre pressures, inspect for wear, test brakes, and check wheel alignment. A full diagnostic takes around an hour and costs far less than the tyre damage you will suffer if alignment is left alone.
