Hybrid Car Servicing: What Is Different?
7 April 2026 · 5 min read
A hybrid still has an engine
A hybrid has a petrol (or occasionally diesel) engine alongside its electric motor, so it still needs oil and filter changes, spark plugs, coolant, brake fluid and all the usual checks. Because the engine starts and stops so often, using the correct oil matters.
Follow your manufacturer's service schedule as you would on any other car, so your service history stays complete.
The high-voltage system
The hybrid battery and its cabling run at high voltage, so the car must be made safe before certain work is done. Our technicians are trained on hybrid systems and know how to work on them safely.
We also check the inverter cooling system and the hybrid battery cooling fan and filter. A blocked battery fan filter is a common and easily missed fault that can cause the battery to run hot.
Brakes last longer — but still need attention
Regenerative braking means the pads do less work, so they last longer. The flip side is that discs and calipers can corrode or seize from lack of use, so we inspect them closely at every service.
