Does My Car Need ADAS Calibration After a New Windscreen?
4 August 2026 · 4 min read
What ADAS is
ADAS stands for advanced driver assistance systems: lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and similar features. Many of them rely on a forward-facing camera mounted behind the windscreen near the rear-view mirror, plus radar sensors in the bumpers.
These systems need to know exactly where their camera or sensor is pointing. A small change in angle can make the car misjudge where the lane or the car ahead is.
Why a new windscreen can affect it
When a windscreen is replaced, the camera bracket comes with the new glass, so the camera may sit at a slightly different angle. Many manufacturers specify a calibration after a windscreen change on cars with a screen-mounted camera. Whether yours needs it depends on the make, model and system.
Calibration can also be needed after a collision repair, suspension work or a wheel alignment change on some cars.
Signs something is not right
Warning lights for lane assist or collision warning, features that switch themselves off, or the car steering against you in lane keeping are all reasons to get the system checked. Ask your windscreen fitter whether calibration was carried out and whether you were given a report.
